What this site collects
Nothing. When you visit a page on this blog, no information about your visit is recorded by this site. There are no:

Third-party services that load on this site
When you visit a page, your browser automatically contacts third-party servers to load certain resources. Those third-party services may log your IP address and other technical information as part of their normal operations. This site does not control those logs.
GitHub Pages (site hosting)
This blog is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service provided by GitHub, Inc. (a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation, headquartered in the United States). When you visit any page, your browser connects to GitHub's servers. GitHub may collect technical information including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited as part of its standard infrastructure logging.

Google Fonts
This site loads the Figtree typeface from Google Fonts (served from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser loads the font, Google receives a request that may include your IP address and browser information.

Note: Google states that Google Fonts does not log IP addresses and that the API is designed for privacy. Font requests go to Google's infrastructure but are not associated with Google accounts or used for advertising. See Google's statement on Fonts privacy.
Cloudflare CDN (cdnjs.cloudflare.com)
Bootstrap CSS, Bootstrap JavaScript, and Bootstrap Icons are loaded from cdnjs.cloudflare.com, a public CDN operated by Cloudflare, Inc. (headquartered in the United States). Cloudflare may log technical request data as part of its infrastructure.

Community and commenting platforms
This site uses third-party platforms for community engagement. Use of these platforms is entirely voluntary. You can read all content on this blog without creating an account on any of them.
Giscus and GitHub Discussions (post comments)
Comments at the bottom of each blog post are powered by Giscus, an open-source commenting system that stores comments in GitHub Discussions on the public repository for this blog.
What is collected when you comment: - Your GitHub username and public profile information - The text of your comment - The date and time of the comment
Where it is stored: GitHub servers (United States). Comments are stored as GitHub Discussions and are publicly visible. Giscus itself does not maintain a separate database of user data — your data is stored under your GitHub account.
Data controller: GitHub, Inc. / Microsoft Corporation
Your rights: You can delete your own GitHub Discussions comments at any time. You can also contact GitHub to request deletion of account data.

Cross-border transfer: Data is stored and processed in the United States. By creating a GitHub account and using Giscus to comment, you consent to this transfer under the terms of GitHub's privacy policy.

r/parentsguidetoai is a community hosted on Reddit, Inc. (headquartered in the United States). This blog links to the subreddit but does not control it or have access to data Reddit collects from its users.
What Reddit collects: Reddit collects account registration information, content you post, usage data, and device information in accordance with its own privacy policy. Reddit uses data for personalization, advertising, and platform operations.

Cross-border transfer: Reddit operates primarily from the United States. Data submitted to Reddit is stored and processed there.
Facebook (Parents Guide to AI group)
The Parents Guide to AI Facebook group is hosted on Meta Platforms, Inc. (headquartered in the United States). This blog links to the group but does not control it or have access to data Meta collects from its users.
What Facebook collects: Facebook collects your account information, group activity, content you post, and extensive behavioural and device data in accordance with its own privacy policy. Facebook uses data for personalization, advertising, and platform operations.
Data controller: Meta Platforms, Inc.
Your rights: Managed through your Facebook account settings and Meta's Privacy Centre.

Cross-border transfer: Meta operates globally and stores data in the United States and other jurisdictions. If you are in Canada, your data may be transferred outside Canada when you use Facebook.
Applicable Canadian and BC privacy law
British Columbia: Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)
This blog is operated by an individual resident in British Columbia. BC's Personal Information Protection Act (SBC 2003, c. 63) governs the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information by private sector organizations in BC.
Because this site does not collect personal information, PIPA obligations are minimal. However, to the extent personal information is handled in connection with this site (for example, if you contact the operator by email), PIPA principles apply:
- Purpose limitation: Personal information is collected only for the specific purpose stated at the time of collection.
- Consent: Collection requires your knowledge and consent, except in limited circumstances.
- Access: You may request access to personal information held about you.
- Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
Complaints: If you have a privacy concern that cannot be resolved directly, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (OIPC).
Federal: Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
At the federal level, PIPEDA (SC 2000, c. 5) governs personal information handled by private sector organizations in the course of commercial activities. British Columbia's PIPA has been recognized as substantially similar to PIPEDA for BC-based activities.
The federal Privacy Commissioner may also be contacted at priv.gc.ca if you have concerns about how personal information is handled by any of the third-party services described above.
Cross-border transfers and US-based services
GitHub, Google, Cloudflare, Reddit, and Meta are all US-based companies. Under PIPEDA and PIPA, organizations that transfer personal information to third parties outside Canada remain accountable for how that information is protected. By using any of these third-party platforms to engage with this community, you acknowledge that your information will be processed outside Canada under the respective company's privacy policy.
Data retention
This site does not retain any personal information. Data retained by third-party platforms is subject to their respective retention policies.
Comments posted via Giscus are stored in GitHub Discussions indefinitely unless you delete them or request deletion from GitHub.
Children's privacy
This blog is written for parents of children — it is not directed at children themselves. The comments system (Giscus/GitHub) requires a GitHub account, which has a minimum age requirement of 13. Reddit and Facebook also have minimum age requirements of 13 under their respective terms of service.
If you believe a minor has submitted personal information through any of these platforms, please contact the relevant platform directly.
Changes to this policy
If the technical setup of this site changes in a way that affects privacy (for example, adding an analytics service or changing the hosting provider), this policy will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised.
